Campaign Proposal
Our campaign introduces an eco-friendly initiative in partnership with Skittles, a prominent candy brand in the US, to address the issue of non-biodegradable wrappers and the resulting excessive waste production. Our motivation for this initiative is rooted in thorough research revealing the detrimental impact of candy wrappers on the environment. For instance, a blog by FloWater, a company dedicated to transforming tap water into exceptional quality, highlights that most candy wrappers are non-recyclable due to their mixed materials, leading to substantial landfill accumulation and potential ocean pollution. Americans purchase nearly 600 million pounds of candy annually during Halloween, exacerbating the issue (“About“).
Our proposed solution involves developing biodegradable Skittles wrappers that, when planted and watered, sprout into flowers. This innovative approach promotes environmental awareness and brand engagement simultaneously. The campaign’s broader goal is to cultivate an eco-conscious culture, especially among younger demographics, harnessing Skittles’ brand identity and influence. The primary objective is to encourage responsible consumption, waste reduction, and to inspire other brands to adopt similar sustainable packaging strategies.
This initiative harmonizes seamlessly with the brand’s essence; for instance, the iconic tagline “Taste the Rainbow” could be transformed to “Plant the Rainbow” to align with the campaign’s ethos. The randomness of each flower’s color adds an element of excitement, catering to the generation that appreciates surprises and unique concepts.
To bring this campaign to life, my team devised three distinct deliverables. These encompass a captivating TikTok takeover under the hashtag #PlantTheRainbow, a community-driven “Rainbow Tree on Tour” event across various metropolitan areas in the United States, and an engaging virtual reality experience.
In essence, our campaign endeavors to establish an eco-friendly precedent through collaboration with Skittles, mitigating wrapper-related environmental concerns while fostering a socially conscious movement that resonates with the brand’s values.
